Why Inject CO2 Into Your Aquascape?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary building block for all aquatic plant life. While wild ecosystems enjoy an endless natural supply, home aquariums quickly deplete their available carbon. Supplementing your tank with a CO2 system unlocks:
- Vibrant Coloration: Promotes deep reds and lush greens in demanding aquatic plants.
- Thicker, Faster Growth: Accelerates carpet coverage and stem density.
- Natural Algae Control: Robust, healthy plant growth is your single best natural defense against nuisance algae
74g CO2 Kit Key Features:
Perfect for Nano Aquariums: Ideal for planted tanks up to 60L.
Ultra-Compact Aesthetics: Most compact CO2 system and yet a sleek, professional setup.
Desktop Base: Produced by the Kiwi Aqua Design Studio using 3D printing technology.
Side Mount bracket: This kit can be mounted on the side of your tank (glass surfaces) with the included mounting bracket.
Plug-and-Play Simplicity: Simple installation process that gets your system up and running in minutes.
Precise Control: High-quality Aqua Pro regulator ensures a steady, reliable flow of CO2 to keep your ecosystem stable.
Usage & Setup Guide
Setting up your 74g CO2 Kit is quick and straightforward:
- Mount the Cartridge: Screw the 74g CO2 cartridge securely into the regulator inlet. Ensure it is tightened completely to puncture the seal without leaks.
- Connect the solenoid valve: Screw in the solenoid onto the outlet of the regulator.
- Install the Bubble Counter: Fill your bubble counter with water (syringe included) and attach it to the regulator outlet.
- Connect the Tubing: Run CO2 tubing from the bubble counter to your CO2 diffuser inside the aquarium.
- Position the Diffuser: Place the diffuser low down in your tank, ideally under the outflow of your filter, to maximize gas dissolution in the water column.
- Adjust the CO2 output: Slowly open the fine-tune needle valve on your regulator. We recommend starting at 1 bubble every 2 to 3 seconds for nano tanks, then monitoring your drop checker to adjust.
Why use a Solenoid valve?
Plants only need CO2 when the aquarium lights are on. Adding a solenoid valve automates this schedule, which can triple the lifespan of your 74g cartridge by turning the gas off at night.
Setting up your solenoid valve schedule:
- Option A (Standard Timer Switch): Plug the solenoid power adapter into a mechanical or digital wall timer. Set it to turn on 1 hour before your aquarium lights turn on, and off 1 hour before the lights turn off.
- Option B (App Controlled Timer Module): Use an inline app-controlled timer module. Connect the module between your power source and the solenoid, and program your schedule via the Chihiros app. (App Controlled Timer is purchased separately)
Aquarium CO2 System Comparison Table
- High-Tech Setups: The chart below assumes medium-to-high plant density and high lighting requiring a standard 30 ppm saturation.
- Low-Tech Setups: Systems with lower lighting and slower plant growth require less CO2 injection. Lowering your dosage for these tanks will drastically improve the lifespan of your CO2 cylinders or cartridges!
