Take your planted tank to the next level with the KiwiAqua SodaStream CO2 Injection Kit. Designed for New Zealand hobbyists, this system offers the perfect sweet spot between convenience, cost, and longevity between the CO2 injection systems we offer. By utilizing easily refillable SodaStream CO2 cylinders (60L threaded version), you get professional-grade plant growth without the hassle and cost of bulky industrial gas bottles.
Why Inject CO2 Into Your Aquascape?
Carbon is a primary building block for all plant life. While wild plants enjoy an endless natural supply of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), home aquariums quickly run out. Supplementing your tank with a CO2 system unlocks vibrant coloration, thicker and faster growth. Best of all, robust and healthy plant growth is your single best natural defence against nuisance algae.
Perfect for hobbyists upgrading an existing setup who already own a diffuser and CO2-safe tubing.
What’s Included: SodaStream Thread Adaptor, Mini Dual-Gauge Regulator, and a Bubble Counter with an integrated Solenoid Valve.
Note: Does not include a SodaStream cylinder, tubing, or diffuser.
2. Starter Kit (Complete Setup)
Everything you need to safely inject CO2 into your planted tank right out of the box.
What’s Included: All components in the Basic Kit, plus 3 meters of AquaPro CO2 tubing, a high-pressure check valve (non-return valve), and a brand new SodaStream CO2 cylinder.
To finish your setup, choose the ideal diffuser for your tank size.
We Offer Free Local Assembly: Collecting your order from our pick-up location? We will happily assemble and leak-test your CO2 kit free of charge! (appointment required)
Component Description:
SodaStream Adaptor: Converts standard NZ SodaStream threads to a standard NZ CO2 cylinder thread (W21.8). Features a built-in adjustment valve to safely control raw output from the cylinder.
Mini Dual-Gauge Regulator: Allows you to fine-tune and dial in your precise bubbles-per-second. The dual gauges display both input pressure (how much gas is left in your cylinder) and output pressure (the pressure actively being used).
Bubble Counter with Built-in Solenoid: Easily monitor your dosage by eye. The integrated 12V electronic solenoid lets you automate your CO2 schedule using a standard timer switch or an inline app controlled timer (sold separately).
High-Pressure Check Valve: A specialized inline non-return valve. It stops aquarium water from siphoning backward into your equipment when the gas turns off, protecting your solenoid and regulator from water damage.
SodaStream Base Options: It is critical to keep your SodaStream cylinder standing upright to prevent liquid CO2 from entering and damaging the regulator components. To solve this, we have designed two beautiful base options: a Simple Base and an Enclosed Base. Both are custom designed and made in-house using premium 3D printing technology by KiwiAqua Design Studio.
Quick Set Up & Operational Guide:
Set Up Guide:
Step 1: Prepare the Adaptor:
Ensure the adaptor dial is turned completely to the OFF position and verify the rubber sealing gasket is sitting inside. Screw the adaptor firmly onto your SodaStream cylinder.
Step 2: Attach the Regulator:
Thread the Mini Regulator onto the SodaStream adaptor. Tighten this hand-tight only—do NOT use tools or wrenches, as over-tightening can damage the seal.
Step 3: Prep & Mount the Bubble Counter:
Unscrew the top cap of the bubble counter and fill the clear chamber 2/3 full with water. Firmly push the bubble counter assembly directly into the regulator port. (Note: The connection is designed to feel slightly loose; this is normal).
Step 4: Run Your Lines:
Connect your CO2 tubing from the bubble counter to your check valve, and then to your diffuser. Crucial: Ensure the arrow printed on the check valve points toward the direction of the airflow (towards the aquarium).
Operational Guide:
Step 1: Double-check that both the adaptor dial and the regulator dial are turned completely OFF.
Step 2: Connect and plug in your electronic solenoid valve. Remember the golden rule: Power ON = CO2 Flowing.
Step 3: Slowly turn the dial on the SodaStream adaptor toward the ON direction until gas reaches the regulator (you will hear a brief “pop” sound). Leave the adaptor dial right there; no further adjustment on this part is needed.
Step 4: Slowly turn the regulator dial to increase your CO2 output to your desired bubbles-per-second. The pressure takes about 5–10 minutes to fully stabilize.
How to Automate Your CO2 Schedule:
Plants only consume CO2 when the lights are on. To prevent stressing your fish at night, you should automate your system:
Option A (Standard Timer Switch):
Plug the solenoid power adapter into a mechanical or digital wall timer. Set it to turn on 1 hour before your aquarium lights turn on, and off 1 hour before the lights turn off. (Or to turn ON/OFF same time as your light).
Option B (App Control):
Use an inline app-controlled timer module. Connect the module between your power source and the solenoid, and program your schedule via the Chihiros app.
